RICOSTA Schuhfabriken GmbH in Donaueschingen is an owner-managed family company with a long history. It shows how we became one of the world's most popular and successful children's shoe brands. We are very proud of that.

2017

Today, we share our long tradition with about 800 employees in five production facilities in the EU, producing approx.2,000,000 pairs of shoes per year. And we want to take our success into the future.

2016

For the first time, RICOSTA production facilities are certified according to the ETI Base Code, which requires the highest level of social sustainability.

2014

In late November, Donaueschingen produces their eighty millionth pair of shoes.

2013

The German Shoe Award 2013 goes to the RICOSTA Rallye, the rugged toddler shoe specifically designed for walkers and pushcars.

2012

Double winner: Following the Outdoor Industry Award in Gold, the RICOSTA Mountain, an outdoor boot specifically designed for children, also receives the German Design Award in Silver.

2011

RICOSTA receives their first reddot Design Award for the PEPINO Krabbelmaxe toddler shoe.

2010

RICOSTA receives the OutDoor INDUSTRY AWARD in Gold for RICOSTA Mountain, the outdoor shoe for children.

2009

Shoetime: RICOSTA receives the fifth German Leather Goods Award for a PEPINO style with transparent inserts and rainbow soles.

2007

Let's do it again: RICOSTA receives the fourth German Leather Goods Award. The winning shoe's best features included colour, design and sole construction.

2005

RICOSTA supports and sponsors the WMS Children's Feet Measuring Event, the world's largest study to analyse data on the foot movements of children aged 3-13. The result is the 2007 Children's Feet Report, containing valuable insights into making good shoes for children.

2003

RICOSTA receives the third German Leather Goods Award.

1999

RICOSTA becomes the first and only European children's shoe manufacturer to be validated according to the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) and certified according to the eco-management standard DIN EN ISO 14001. In the same year, RICOSTA receives their second German Leather Goods Award for the world's first children's shoe developed according to sports medical criteria.

1996

After 19 years of leadership, Roland Bieger hands the company's reins to Ralph Rieker, son of the company founder – but stays connected as a senior advisor.

1994

RICOSTA becomes the world's first shoe manufacturer to injection-mould non-toxic, light polyurethane soles (PU soles) directly to the uppers without using adhesives. The patented process is seen as a pioneering achievement in the shoe industry.

1993

First: RICOSTA receives the German Leather Goods Award (Deutscher Lederwarenpreis) for the first time.

1978

The PEPINO brand is introduced. Our "fine shoes for small feet" conquer the training shoe market.

1977

Roland Bieger takes over as Managing Director, now controlling the fate of RICOSTA.

1966

Moon landing, Woodstock and sassy fashion trends – and Roland Rieker leads the company to independence and establishes RICOSTA as the brand for modern shoes for children and teens.

1957

Top out ceremony at the company headquarters in Donaueschingen, still in use today. In the same year, RICOSTA introduces the world's very first children's shoe with a warranty. 

1955

Good idea: RICOSTA becomes a registered brand (RIeker and CO STAbil).
